Brazil Scope is committed to handling visitor information responsibly. This policy explains what information may be collected when you use thebrazilscope.com, why it is used, and the choices available to you.
Information we collect
We may collect technical information such as IP-derived security data, browser type, device type, pages visited, referral information, timestamps and aggregated usage data. If you contact us, subscribe to a newsletter, create an account or later purchase a subscription, we may also process the information you provide for those purposes.
Browser-local saved stories
The “Save for later” feature stores article identifiers in your browser's local storage. These saved items are not an account profile and remain on that browser unless you remove them or clear local storage.
Article feedback
When you choose Like or Dislike on an article, Brazil Scope creates a random identifier in that browser’s local storage and sends it only with feedback submissions so the same browser has one current response per article. The server stores a one-way hash of that random identifier together with the article and selected response. The raw identifier is not stored in the feedback table, and the feature is used to understand which types of coverage are most useful to readers.
Topic following and personalized browser feed
If you use the Follow feature, selected topic slugs are stored in your browser's local storage so Brazil Scope can build a browser-local Following feed. The site may also store a hashed visitor identifier with aggregate topic-follow records to measure which subjects readers choose to follow.
Browser alerts
If you opt in to browser alerts, Brazil Scope stores a pseudonymous browser preference and the notification permission state so followed-topic alerts can be delivered while the site is open. Browser notification permission is controlled by your browser and can be revoked at any time. The site also keeps a transport-ready subscription table for a future standards-based background web-push connection, but no external push provider is activated by default.
Article readership and internal engagement
Brazil Scope may record article views and internal navigation events using pseudonymous hashed visitor identifiers. These records are used for aggregate features such as Most Read, Trending, internal click measurement and product improvement. Event-level growth records are automatically limited in retention by site maintenance.
Newsletter preferences
If you join the Brazil Scope Briefing, you may optionally select a delivery frequency and topics of interest. Those preferences are stored with your newsletter subscription and are used to make future briefings more relevant.
Cookies and similar technologies
Brazil Scope may use cookies or similar technologies for essential site functions, security, audience measurement, preferences and advertising. You can control cookies through your browser and, where applicable, through consent controls presented on the site.
Google advertising
Brazil Scope may use Google AdSense and related Google advertising services. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses or other identifiers to serve and measure advertising. Google advertising cookies may allow Google and its partners to serve ads based on a user’s previous visits to Brazil Scope and/or other websites on the internet.
Users can manage or opt out of personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings. Users may also visit aboutads.info for industry opt-out choices. Information about how Google uses data on partner sites is available at Google’s partner-sites disclosure.
If additional third-party advertising vendors or networks are enabled, they may also use cookies or similar technologies according to their own policies. Depending on the visitor’s region and applicable law, consent choices may be presented before advertising technologies that require consent are used.
Search, referrals and performance measurement
Brazil Scope may record privacy-limited internal search terms, aggregate referral domains, pseudonymous browser sessions and browser-reported performance measurements such as loading, layout stability and interaction responsiveness. Search logging rejects obvious email addresses and URLs, popular-search modules require multiple readers before a term can be surfaced, and these records are used to improve navigation, SEO, performance and editorial discovery.
Analytics and performance
We may use analytics and performance tools to understand how readers use the site, diagnose technical problems and improve the publication. Where possible, we use aggregated or pseudonymous information rather than information intended to identify individual readers.
Accounts and paid access
If you create an account, Brazil Scope stores the name and email address you provide, a securely hashed password, account status and login timestamps needed to operate the account. If paid subscriptions are enabled, payment processing is handled by an external payment provider. Brazil Scope does not need to store complete payment-card numbers on its own servers. Subscription status, customer and subscription references, billing period information and payment-event records may be stored to grant access, prevent fraud and reconcile billing.
For metered Premium stories, Brazil Scope may store a pseudonymous visitor hash, article identifier and timestamp so the site can apply a limited number of complimentary reads without creating an advertising profile.
Travel advertisers
If you create a Brazil Scope Travel advertiser profile, we may process the account and business information you provide, including contact details, advertiser type, CPF or CNPJ information, Cadastur information when supplied, property details, photographs, external website or booking links, WhatsApp contact details, listing status and billing references. Identity-document numbers are protected at rest and are used for advertiser verification, fraud prevention and account administration.
For sponsored accommodation analytics, Brazil Scope may record pseudonymous impressions and outbound clicks to a property website, external booking page or WhatsApp, together with limited country-level information when supplied by the hosting or network layer. Brazil Scope does not receive the resulting reservation details unless the advertiser or traveler independently sends them to us.
Third-party links
Articles often link to primary documents, government websites, companies and news organizations. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
Retention and security
Information is retained only as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, legal obligations, fraud prevention and security. Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards are used, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights relating to access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability of personal data. Requests can be sent to editor@thebrazilscope.com.
Children
Brazil Scope is a general-audience news publication and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site, advertising, analytics or subscription features change. The latest version will always be published on this page with its revision date.
